Drums Spots for Summer 2010

Sadly, we've had two drummers suffer injuries this week (including a broken/fractured wrist). We have a couple of drum spots now available for Summer 2010.

Week 1: 1 spot

Week 3: 1 spot

Week 4: 2 spots

If you know someone who'd like to join us on Drums for Summer 2010 let them know! We were sold out (1 spot only) until these injuries.  One of the young musicians will be joining us later in the summer, wrist permitting.  We wish both of these young musicians a speedy return to health and look forward to seeing them during the last two weeks of Summer 2010.

Music Education hits all the Right Notes

If there were a course to teach your child self-discipline, time management and self-reliance, would you enroll him? If this class would raise his SAT score by an average of 107 points and significantly increase his mathematics proficiency, is it worth your tax dollars? If that same course would place him in the group with the lowest lifetime and current use of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs, would you camp out to guarantee him a spot?
You don’t have to. Just support the music programs in your school. March is “Music in Schools” month. More than ever, taxes are being scrutinized, school budgets slashed. Even worse, parents have less discretionary funds for elective classes. Music and the arts are the first casualties in the battle for educational dollars. Before we unholster, load and blast a few more rounds at music and the arts, it’s worth considering the value of music education.

CityArts launches "Learn to Rock!"

Have you ever dreamed of learning to play guitar, bass, drums or being a singer in a Rock and Roll Band?  Do you love Pop, Rock, Rhythm and Blues and Funk?  This is your program.
CityArts is launching the Learn to Rock! Program.  A program designed to give kids aged 10 through 17 years of age, who don't play an instrument, an introduction into the exiting world of modern music making.
Learn to Rock is delivered as a multi-week after school program and an intensive five day, action packed, Learn to Rock Camp program.
CityArts is very excited about bringing this program to schools in the Greater Toronto Area starting in the summer (Learn to Rock Camp) and the fall (after school programs) of 2010.
Teaming up with our sponsors we hope to expose hundreds of Toronto kids to the joy of making music together.
